2017 Washington High School HAMMER Championships

Forty-Two of the Evergreen State’s finest prep throwers, one of the largest field in the seventeen-year history of this meet, competed on Sunday, May 28 2017 at Central Valley High School Ultimate Throws Cage as approximately 300 spectators watched from the elevated grandstands.

Jordon Fong from Interlake High School set a new Central Valley High School field record with a state leading throw of 163-3 to pickup her first state championship as a junior. Next year she will try and add her name to a small group of two time female state champions Haleigh Sudbeck (UHawaii) Katie Wardsworth (UIdaho, WSU, UW) Olivia Midles (EWU) Gabriella Midles (UIdaho)

Freshman Trey Knight from Ridgefield High School served noticed with a big throw of 202-4 to set the All-Time Washington State Freshman Record by almost twenty feet and secure one of many state championships to come. He also wowed the crowd with a fouled throw of 208-0 which would have been five feet off Conor McCullough National Freshman record.                                       

300 spectators and one of the largest fields to compete at the state championships in what was supposed to be a down year with all of the seniors that graduated last year. The 2017 track and field season topped the most ever to throw the hammer in state history with 109 boys and girls giving the ball and wire a try.
